Using your Netgear DG834G modem for wireless

Many people prefer to use their existing modem for wireless to avoid having to reconnect all the devices to a new access point. Before you can use your modem with Sharedband there are a few steps you need to complete.

Step 1
Using a web browser (such as Internet Explorer) log in to your modem. If you haven’t changed it, you can reach it by going to http://192.168.0.1

Step 2
In the blue menu on the left hand side click on “LAN IP Setup

Step 3
Untick “Use router as a DHCP Server

Step 4
Because Sharedband normally uses the IP address 192.168.0.1 you need to change the IP address of your wireless access point to avoid a conflict.

In the top field change your IP address to 192.168.0.50. If you have purchased neutral routers you will need to change your IP to 192.168.3.50

If you are unsure what IP address you need to use please raise a support ticket

Click apply at the bottom of the page (not pictured).

You are now ready to connect your DG834G to Sharedband. Using a network cable, plug one end into your DG834G and the other end into any of the Sharedband routers or if you are using a switch, plug into that.

DO NOT PLUG YOUR NETGEAR DG834G INTO THE PHONELINE

If you have any problems you can raise a ticket.
